This is a very strong quote. It is hard to disagree with the saying at first glance. However, I think there are two things that are downplayed in this quote. First, it is not about being mediocre in all aspects of your life.

It is about being mediocre in all aspects of your life, especially in work. This means that you are doing something that you are not interested in doing. You are just going through the motions.

You are not living life to its fullest extent. You are not taking full advantage of your talents or gifts to the fullest extent of your capabilities. Having said that, I believe you can be mediocre in work without being mediocre in all areas of your life.

Secondly, this quote does not mean that there is only one way to live a successful and meaningful life. There are many ways to live an amazing life; one way might be another’s greatest failure or greatest disappointment yet it can still be successful if done right!
